About the event
For new actors, a theater summer camp is the perfect way to introduce them to the world of theater. In just 1 week we will put on a fabulous play for the campers' family and friends to enjoy. They will get to experience the fun of rehearsals and the joy of being in a theater production. For new and returning students it's a great way to hone in on their skills as an actor by playing fun theater games that teach improv, projection, memorization, characterization, teamwork, and pantomime. These games also teach tons of techniques they can use whenever they have to present material (for instance presentations for school, college, or in the work field one day). Additionally, it's also plain and simple summer camp fun all week long! The Play With A Bear In It is a retelling of East of the Sun and West of the Moon. A family has so many children, that they run out of names, so they name their youngest daughter Siri. The family is very poor, cold and hungry, so when a bear shows up on their doorstep and offers to provide for them if they allow Siri to go and live with him, they agree. The bear lives in an enchanted ice palace. Soon Siri learns that he’s actually an enchanted prince, bear during the day, and a prince during the night. However, when she discovers the truth it ruins the spell, and he’s forced to leave and live among the Trolls, who had cursed him, and marry the Troll Queen’s daughter. Siri sets off on a quest to rescue him, and undo the curse. It’s a very sweet story, and one of my favorites. I’m so excited to be doing it as a play! It’s been written for young actors to perform, and the show is quick witted, funny, and perfect for all ages to either watch or participate in.
